The Mayan calendar
The Mayan calendar is a lot different from the calendars we use on a daily basis. Instead of being square documents that use numbers and days, they’re circular tablets that use symbols. A lot has been said about the Mayan calendar in recent years. The problem that arises here is the fact we’re trying to compare their system to what we know from our system. It’s absurd to think that an ancient calendar system is going to have any bearing on our current lives. What we should do with the Mayan calendar is use it to double check events as they happen. Using it to predict future events is silly because we don’t know whether our interpretation of the Mayan calendar is correct. Nobody is alive from that time period, so they can’t tell us what the symbols mean.
In the end, all we can do is get in the ballpark of what the Mayans meant when they created the Mayan calendar. All we can do is stick with what we know rather than trying to make other things we don’t know resemble what we do know. We can research the Mayan calendar, but we shouldn’t try and force an application towards modern life. The Mayan calendar might seem like something that aligns perfectly with modern life. It’s nothing more than an ancient calendar system that can easily be applied to ancient life and nothing else. You shouldn’t dwell in the world that is full of conspiracy theories and doomsday scenarios. |
