If you’re an aspiring artist, you could learn a thing or two from Mayan art.  They were a race of people who knew a lot about art.  When you research art, you’re going to find frequent mentions of Mayan art.  That’s not exactly by accident.  The fact their art has withstood the test of time is a testament to the time and effort they put into making it.  As an artist, you should aspire to make your creations look similar to what you’re going to see in Mayan art.  If you are able to replicate a fraction of the quality they were able to turn out on a regular basis, you’re going to be well on your way to becoming a legendary artist.  Make sure you don’t copy everything that comes from Mayan art.  You want to go your own way and find your own creative voice.
There’s nothing wrong with mixing and matching various elements from other types of art as long as you add your own touch to them or put them together in an original way.  You don’t want people to look at what you create and automatically think of things other people have created; you want them to see your masterpieces and have them associate that style with your name.  A lot of people are imitators in the art world, whether they’re imitating Mayan art or some other branch of art.  You shouldn’t become one of these people; you should look to go your own way with your artistic career.
