Original Mayan sculptures are going to fetch millions upon millions of dollars at auctions.  Some of them are so priceless that they’re going to end up in a museum rather than anywhere near your art collection.  As a result, you’re going to want to go with the methods that were responsible for coming up with the various Mayan sculptures to create your own modern Mayan sculptures.  You should stay with the methods that made this area of Mayan art so prominent.  You don’t want to take their methods and warp them into something that doesn’t resemble anything near what you found in the history books or at a museum.  If you want to get respect for creating Mayan sculptures, you should try to create what people commonly associate with Mayan sculptures.  Anything else is going to subject you to frequent, but warranted criticism.
